The time has come to march on Austin. THE 2011 MIGHTY MILLION MARCH (Spring 2011) is a landmark demonstration to respectfully ask for answers, accountability and progressive action, out of Texas’ capitol. We (tax-paying) citizens must challenge the status quo and profitability of the Prison Industry super powers (GEO & CCA). However, even though they operate more prisons in Texas, than any other state in the union, The GEO Group and CCA prison management firms are [simply] by-products of a bigger issue. The primary focus of the march is to bring awareness to this "invisible" society of jobseekers; to lobby our representatives for more personal involvement in reducing recidivism and improving the quality of life for all TEXANS! There appears to be NO monetary incentive for decision-makers or prison management firms to reduce recidivism. Conversely, there is more money to be made in maintaining 60-70% recidivism (within 3yrs of release)...which is a cash-cow. WE THE PEOPLE must unite and peacefully make our desires known; we must become ACTIVE and exercise our 1st AMENDENT right to "peacefully" assemble. WE THE PEOPLE must leverage our COLLECTIVE voting capital and our COLLECTIVE consumer capital to stimulate CHANGE (and stop waiting for change). The POWER & STRENGTH is in our SOLIDARITY; We inherently possess the power to VOTE (or to influence a vote) and to BOYCOTT unsympathetic businesses; They should value our labor, as well as our dollars. Therefore: Dallas, Ft Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, etc…will descend onto Austin to be the voice of those who are continuously marginalized, ignored, and exploited. This symbolic statement will happen on the southern steps of the capitol, in the spring of 2011, because of the very well-known correlation between crime & unemployment.
WHAT TWC HOPES RIO-JOBSEEKERS NEVER FIND OUT:
Project RIO's 25 year (est. 1985) span of data manipulation and not playing an integral role in MOST releasees' job attainment must end! FACT: Project RIO has EVERY TDCJ releasees' social security number. THEREFORE, when MOST releasees get fed up with making USELESS trips to the workforce center, only to leave the workforce center without a viable job lead, they stop making multiple discouraging trips to the workforce center and Recidivate/Re-offend (Return To Prison) or resort to going out and finding their own job without Project RIO's active involvement. However [because] RIO obtains every releasees' social security number upon release, via the releasee attending (1) mandatory Project RIO orientation at their local Workforce Center, Project RIO is systematically allowed to [unethically] take "back-door" STATISTICAL credit for a "non-involved" job attainment: The TWC term is called an OE/Obtained Employment (which is captured every 3 mos/quarter, when TWC runs wage-data queries and get a proof-of-working"hit" on a social security number from a vanished/frustrated customer). It is from that proof-of-working [OE] data that Project RIO and TWC contractors are allowed to generate misleading (yet, impressive) Project RIO PERFORMANCE REPORTS every fiscal year to substantiate the need to continue refunding Project RIO. Additionally, the TDCJ & TWC disconnect is just the tip of the room-for-improvement iceberg: There are thousands and thousands of Traditionally-Non-RIO-Eligible jobseekers that visit Texas Workforce Centers across the state that have no help from the TWC system. These traditionally non-RIO jobseekers have NOT served time in a TDC facility, but have been "touched" by the criminal justice system (ie. Misdemeanor, Deferred Adjudication, Probationers, Federal Parolees) and experience the same employment barriers as RIO-eligible jobseekers. It is alleged that some jobseekers have been [actually] told by TWC staff to go commit a crime; go to prison; and [then] come back to be served at Project RIO. This permissible CORPORATE CULTURE must be boldly addressed from the very top of the chain of command...your "representatives" in the Austin capitol...and IF change doesn't occur...then onward to Washington D.C.!!! We will not be silenced!!!
